MFG Day Highlights Industry Impact, Importance
_
Each year, the first Friday of October highlights one of Kansas’ key industries – manufacturing – to help raise awareness about its impact and the great career opportunities it offers.
“The manufacturing industry is very important to Kansas,” said Brandie McPherson, Executive Director of the Kansas Manufacturing Council (KMC). “Not only does it have a major impact on our state’s economy, manufacturing also provides crucial resources and products worldwide. Manufacturing Day or MFG DAY highlights Kansas companies that create local jobs and are great representatives for our state, nationally and internationally.”

There are more than 2,500 manufacturers in Kansas, employing 157,000 people with an average annual compensation of $74,541. Manufacturing produces more than $27 billion in output annually, 15.55% of the total output in the state. Manufacturing helps drive the state’s economy with more than $8.26 billion in annual manufactured good exports to markets such as Canada, Mexico, Japan, United Kingdom, and Germany.

“MFG Day also helps to address common misconceptions about manufacturing by giving manufacturers an opportunity to showcase what they do, what manufacturing is – and what it isn’t,” McPherson said.

The manufacturing industry includes aviation, biosciences, chemical products, computer and electronic components, energy, fabricated metal products, food and beverage products, machinery, motor vehicles and parts, petroleum, plastics and rubber products, printing, transportation equipment, and many other products.
_
The Kansas Manufacturing Council also is celebrating the state’s manufacturing industry and Kansas-made products through its 2022 Coolest Thing Made In Kansas competition.
_
This year’s competition features two categories – People’s Choice and Coolest Innovation.

The winners will be announced during the Kansas Manufacturing Summit on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at the Kansas Star Casino and Event Center in Mulvane. More than 150 manufacturers and the organizations and businesses that support them are expected to attend the summit.
